A Word from Amy MacDonald

Please, Malese

"I believe in honest, constructive criticism that will help writers prepare a mansucript for publication. As a mentor, it is my goal that each manuscript consultation will be more than just a one-off experience over one manuscript: by the time we're done, I hope each writer I work with will have learned some of the universals of good writing and the basics of preparing a manuscript for submission. Lastly, I should add that, since many of my picture books are in rhyme, I particularly enjoy working with writers attempting to write in verse."

Experience

I've been a writer for over twenty years. I got my start on the local newspaper, and never looked back. My non-fiction has been published both here and in England and France, in such places as the New Yorker, the Times of London, and a variety of magazines. It wasn't until I had children and began publishing children's books, however, that I really found my genre. My first book, Little Beaver and the Echo, seemed like a fluke when I wrote it, but it has now been translated into 27 different languages and won awards in three countries. I've published a dozen or so picture books and chapter books since that time.

No More Nice. No More Nasty.

As a teacher of writing, I have conducted workshops on three different continents. I think I've taught writing to every age group from kindergarten to post-grad students. I've taught writing at Harvard University, the Stonecoast Writers Conference, and the University of Maine. Recently I became a Teaching Artist for the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., as a member of their National Arts Partners touring artist roster.
